Smart Tinker has evolved since the time it started in December 2013. As a family, we have gone through a major upheaval and felt that we needed to redefine our family values. Working our way to what is essential, we have identified areas in our lives that we would like to focus on - OUR FAMILY INTENTIONS.
Smart Tinker, as a family business, exemplifies what we believe in and stand for when it comes to LEARNING. We would like to share our family intentions on learning in ways that are tangible and reflective of how we are as a family. This site will give you a glimpse of our family escapades, the products that we love, sell and endorse, and the activities that we do to make learning visible. So join us, read along and get to know about our FIVE INTENTIONS ON LEARNING and how we manifest it in our family.
INTENTION 1: LEARNING is part of our FAMILY CULTURE.
Being a multicultural family, our family activities reflect our diversity and uniqueness in family culture. Read more about my MUSINGS ON PARENTING to get a glimpse of our family escapades.
INTENTION 2: We use PLAY to promote learning.
We believe in the Reggio Emilia principle that the environment is the "third teacher". That is why we take time to select the learning opportunities that we can provide to our children. Check out what our little ones are tinkering and toying with with our MONTHLY TINKER TOY HIGHLIGHT (coming soon).
INTENTION 3: We use TECHNOLOGY to supplement learning.
Part of the 21st century skills that we would like to promote at home is the use of TECHNOLOGY as supplement to learning. Watch the videos in our APPtly PICKED segment to learn more about apps that promote critical-thinking, compassion and creativity.
INTENTION 4: We advocate for LIFELONG LEARNING.
We can never be too young or too old to learn something new. So what are we learning? what's on our bookshelf? Read more to find out about parenting books or children's books that we highly recommend in MY READING LIST.
INTENTION 5: We make learning VISIBLE in our family.
As an educator, I am a big advocate of VISIBLE THINKING. What is it about and how do we use it at home? Your can read about it in my blog and I have plenty of examples on how we use it.
